COIN SILVER Unique to American silver, Coin Silver pieces were typically created from melting and casting coins. The 19th century practice originated from silversmiths stamping the term “Coin”, “Pure Coin”, “Dollar” or “Premium” on the pieces to assure buyers they were of a premium quality. The term is also commonly used for all silver created prior to 1870 when “Sterling” became the standard. The National Stamping Act of 1906 required that all silver stamped “Coin” be of at least 900/1000 fineness. Browse our beautiful collection of Coin Silver. |
